You Are Unique!

You are Unique

You are unique, I’ve told you many times,

I want to convince you that destiny awaits,

And at a certain moment you will be there,

When destiny flings open your special gates,

Allow yourself to think and dream,

Run with the wind and feel its power,

Use every precious moment in your grasp,

Life is too swift to waste even one hour,

Voices may tell you to keep both feet on the ground,

Don’t listen! you don’t have to be planted yet,

Keep dreaming and feeling, listening and seeing,

And the expectations of others try to forget,

Don’t do what you’ve been told you have to do,

Absorb from the stars their creativity and light,

You don’t have to be someone’s clone,

Be an individual, you have the obligation and right,

If you give up your goals too soon, my friend,

Your growth will be stunted and you’ll not touch the sky,

You’ll forget the commitment you made to yourself,

You will lose value in your own mind’s eye,

It takes courage to walk where others fear to go,

Pain and hurt are necessary for you to grow,

Mistakes are just steps to reach a higher plain,

Keep reaching and trying, you’ve everything to gain.

  1. What a fine poem, Dan. It’s touching, inspirational, and memorable. Who is the gentleman? I couldn’t access the site you linked. All that came up was ads.

I don’t know if you linked this into JP Potluck this evening, but it sure would be an inspiration to poets.

    Poem on …

    1. I link poems that are still drying from wet ink and then I forget what words and poems I wrote. I’ll have to go back and check.

May the sun be on your face and the wind at your back as the Lord blesses you throughout the day. Carpe diem!

    1. Thanks for your kind comments, especially from a poet such as yourself. dan May the sun be on your face and the wind at your back as the Lord blesses you throughout the day. Carpe diem!

  2. Ahhh … a lesson we should all be so lucky to learn at an early age ~ that we’re all unique and special in our own ways … and that we should never have to ask for permission for the privilage of being ourselves!

  3. Absolutely enjoyed reading this, so much positivity and such a wonderful message. I think everyone should read this poem, really makes one look forward to the coming day 🙂

    Loved these lines especially:

“It takes courage to walk where others fear to go,

Pain and hurt are necessary for you to grow,

Mistakes are just steps to reach a higher plain,

Keep reaching and trying, you’ve everything to gain.”

  4. “Life is too swift to waste even one hour,”

I was swept away by your brilliant words… 🙂 and made me actually think if I am wasting my life or not…

    Cheers!

  5. Very inspirational my friend! Often these thought are the ones I forget when I stumble but these are the ones needed the most in those times because that is times when people like to gut kick you and tell you how to live. Great poem Dan
